24 Oct Considering Going Vegetarian or Vegan?
Monday's Interview: “The Vegetarian Myth”
If you read my blog, you'll notice that I often talk about whether various food lifestyles are nutritionally beneficial for your body. So when I read an excerpt of “The Vegetarian Myth” I was surprised to hear a part of the vegetarian controversy that I usually don't hear much about.
“The Vegetarian Myth” that takes a different spin on the topic vegetarianism by exploring the destructive nature of agriculture and questioning the ethical nature of how we grow and distribute our food.
I wanted to hear more, so I invited the author of the book, Lierre Keith to come on my show on Monday, and share some of her insights including:
- The ethical questions about vegetarianism we forget to ask (that goes far beyond the ethical treatment of animals)
- Why food must come from inside living communities and how we can begin to change our food practices
- The real health risks of a vegan and vegetarian diet
Lierre Keith is a writer, radical feminist, food activist, and environmentalist. Her writing and lectures focus on civilization’s violence against the planet, male violence against women, and the need for serious resistance to both.
